Difference Between MCB and MCCB: A Complete Guide
In low-voltage power distribution systems, MCB and MCCB are the two most widely used protection devices. They both serve to protect circuits from overload and short circuit faults, but they differ greatly in rated current, breaking capacity, application scenarios and structural design. Understanding the differences between MCB and MCCB is essential for electrical engineers, contractors, wholesalers and project buyers to select the right circuit breaker for different projects.
- Rated Current Range MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)- Rated current: 1A ~ 63A – Mainly used for small current terminal circuits MCCB (Molded Case Circuit Breaker)- Rated current: 16A ~ 1600A – Covers medium and large current distribution lines
- Breaking Capacity MCB has a relatively low short-circuit breaking capacity, suitable for ordinary household and commercial light-load circuits. MCCB is designed with higher breaking capacity, which can withstand and cut off large short-circuit current, ideal for industrial workshops, power distribution cabinets and main power supply lines.
- Application Scenarios MCB Applications – Residential building household distribution – Office lighting and socket circuits – Small electrical equipment control – Terminal branch circuit protection MCCB Applications – Factory main distribution cabinet – Commercial building power distribution system – Motor power supply protection – Industrial equipment main switch .
- Structure & Adjustment Function MCB is compact, fixed setting, cannot adjust current and trip curve. MCCB adopts molded case integral design, most models support adjustable overload and short-circuit trip value, more flexible for industrial project configuration.
- Which One Should You Choose? – For home, office, small load terminal: Choose MCB – For factory main power, large motor, industrial distribution: Choose MCCB Conclusion Both MCB and MCCB are indispensable in low-voltage electrical systems. Choosing the correct type according to current load and application environment can ensure power safety and stable operation. At Mingtuo Electric, we supply a full range of MCB, MCCB, ACB, VCB and AC contactors with CE, CB and IEC standard compliance. RM22UB34 Single-Phase Voltage Monitoring Relay
Core Functions: Monitors the voltage of a single-phase 220V circuit; detects over-voltage, under-voltage, and power loss conditions; and independently monitors the power supply to a single-phase load.
Terminal Definitions
A1/A2: Connection points for the single-phase power supply to be monitored;
L1/L2: Power supply circuit;
Output contacts: Linked to alarm or shutdown functions.
Practical Applications
1. Monitors 220V equipment such as heating elements, single-phase variable frequency drives (VFDs), lighting systems, and small oil pumps;
2. Disconnects the load when grid voltage is excessively low or high, preventing damage to controllers and heating elements;
3. Can be used for delayed equipment startup upon power-up and for power-loss alarms.
RM22TR33 Multifunction 3-Phase Voltage Monitoring Relay
Core Functions: Comprehensive three-phase monitoring—including phase sequence, phase loss, over-voltage, under-voltage, and three-phase voltage imbalance—with adjustable time-delay functionality.
Terminal Definitions
L1/L2/L3: Three-phase 380V input;
A1/A2: Auxiliary power supply;
16/18: Fault alarm contacts.
Practical Applications
1. Includes all phase sequence and phase loss protection features found in the RM22TG20;
2. Provides time-delayed shutdown protection in cases of high grid voltage (over-voltage), low grid voltage (under-voltage), or excessive voltage difference between phases;
3. Suitable for precision equipment—such as elevators, injection molding machines, central air conditioning systems, and large air compressors—where high voltage stability is required.
